Congratulations to Gabbie Robilotto on the funding of a 2-year NIH F31 Award entitled “Evaluation of the influence of angiotensin type 1 receptor expression under disease conditions in an autoimmune cystitis animal model”. Based on data she collected while the lab was at the University of Florida, Gabbie proposes to investigate if Ang-II signaling contributes to pathological changes in the bladder in a chronic bladder inflammatory mouse model, with specific focus on AT1R, and how this relates to disease conditions in interstitial cystitis/ bladder pain syndrome (IC/BPS).

The whole lab attended CAIRIBU 2024 in Milwaukee. Congrats to Hannah Anderson for winning best poster in the contratility section!

New Review Paper
New Review Paper

Hannah Anderson published her first first-author paper in the American Journal of Physiology-Renal. Her review “Role of Local Angiotensin II Signaling in Bladder Function” evaluates the literature investigating angiotensin II signaling in the bladder. Congrats to all the authors! Read Here

The lab has recently received a notice of award for a new 5-year R01 to study the role of urothelial cells in sensory signaling. With Co-investigators Jim Hokanson and Shahab Vahdat (UC -Riverside), we will start to define a role for the sensory component of urothelial cells in bladder sensation, interoception, and pain. This study will utilize a recently published animal model that enables the isolation of urothelial stimulation using optogenetics. Congrats to the whole team!

Knowable Article

Dr. Mickle was recently interviewed for an article on brain bladder interactions and how urine urgency is perceived.
